Maruti Celerio, one of the best cars available in Indian market today, is about to be rolled out in the diesel version soon. But probably this would happen in the current fiscal itself!
Maruti Celerio was launched with a huge fanfare at Delhi Auto Expo 2014, and it is the first car in its segment to use automated manual transmission (AMT). Coming to the diesel, it could break records when rolled out, because the rising fuel prices is taking away customers from Maruti of the small segment, as the brand doesn’t had diesel option down the line.
Confirming this news, “Maruti is working to adapt the 800cc diesel engine, its first self-developed engine, for the Eeco van. The engine will first be launched in the new Maruti LCV (codeY9T) and the Celerio this fiscal,” said a source of the industry.
At present, Maruti Celerio is planted with the retuned 1.0L K-Series, three-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 67 bhp @ 6000 RPM and a peak torque of 90 Nm @ 3500 RPM. This A+ segment car of Maruti dwells two options of transmission: 5-speed manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT).
In that near future, with the 800cc diesel engine, which is said to be presently under development, will be delivering approximately 35bhp with an expected fuel-economy of 25kmpl as per ARAI.
Hopefully, there are no official words from the brand, but we shall keep our fingers crossed so that this could happen soon.
