Maruti Suzuki will be adding another first in its long history of achievements at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo 2012. Using this platform, the largest car maker in India is going to showcase the Maruti Ertiga, its first ever offering in the compact MPV segment.

The Exteriors:

Maruti has based the Ertiga on its Ritz platform. The car carries a family oriented design and its front has an uncanny similarity to the Ritz. However, the headlights have been peeled back and have been stretched right up to its prominent wheel arches, which is a styling concept inspired from the latest Swift. Its front bumper has been styled in a sporty manner and boasts of a large inlet for air. Enclosures have been provided to its fog lights. Maruti has not gone for excessive styling at the rear end and has retained a more general look.

Dimensions that have been provided to the Maruti Ertiga include a length of 4265mm along with standing height of 1685mm. Its wheelbase of 2740mm has provided the car with the ability to accommodate more passengers, thereby helping it to project the image of being a large, family car as per Indian family standards.

Interiors:

The Maruti Ertiga will be able to adequately accommodate seven passengers. An interesting feature that has been provided to this car is its corrugated roof that provides added strength. Maruti has put in sincere efforts to give this mini-MPV more of a car-like feeling. To ensure the same, it has retained in the car the same steering wheel and dashboard that has been provided to the Swift. The interiors have also been given with more premium looks by making use of lighter materials.

Although it cannot be said that the Ertiga provides as much space as the market leader Toyota Innova does, it has on its part made efforts to ensure passenger comfort, particularly for the occupants of the middle as well as last row. Both rows of passengers will get the comfort of the air conditioning in a more pronounced manner thanks to the AC vents that have been roof-mounted. However, a thing that seems strange is the fact that even the high-end ZDi and ZXi variants have not been provided with the feature of climate control.

Engine and Power Factor:

In the Maruti Ertiga, the manufacturer is introducing a latest engine from its widely appreciated K-series of engines. The K14 provided to this car is, as its name indicates, a 1.4L petrol engine that has been additionally provided with the VVT (Variable Valve Timing) feature. The engine has been blessed with the capacity of generating maximum power of 95Bhp and will delver peak torque of 13kgm. It has also been provided with a 1.3L diesel engine variant, similar to the SX4, which achieves maximum power and peak torque of 89Bhp and 20.39kgm respectively.

Pricing:

The Maruti Ertiga is expected to be offered in the market at a competitive price between Rs.6 lacs and Rs.9 Lacs.
