Maruti’s MPV will soon hit Indian markets, as a prototype of the model; named RIII was recently spotted testing. The MPV, which was first showcased during the January Delhi Auto Expo, last year, received a tremendous response from car enthusiasts and visitors. The RIII is projected to be introduced in the Indian auto market by 2012.
The MPV is reportedly receiving its final touches at a facility in Japan, after which full the car will begin full scale manufacturing. This new car will probably be powered by a 1248cc DDiS engine, the same engine that powers the entry level Maruti SX4 diesel sedan that was launched only recently.
This powerful diesel motor produces 89bhp of max power and 20.5kgm of peak torque. After the launch of the RIII diesel variant, a petrol variant is expected to follow soon. The 1.2l petrol variant is expected to feature the 1.2l K-Series motor.
The RIII is projected to be introduced in the INR 7 lakh bracket, though the company is still to officially announce the specs and details of the MPV in India.
