Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest car maker, is believed to be working on a new entry level compact hatchback which will be branded as Cervo and will be launched sometime in 2013 launch in the Indian market. Many of the industry experts believe that the new hatchback will be pitched below the company’s current cheapest offering i.e. Alto 800. The upcoming vehicle has created a lot of stir in the auto industry and is expected to come with the price tag around Rs. 1.5 Lakhs.
With such generous pricing, the new model will be in direct competition with the subcompact vehicles like the Tata Nano in the Indian auto market. With the new entry level vehicle in form of Maruti Suzuki Cervo, company is mainly concentrating on the Indian two-wheeler owners who want to upgrade to a decent looking and affordable car. From the initial spy shots that are swirling around in the internet, the new car looks basic with the decent looks and styling, which can be considered to be its edge over the boxy Tata Nano.
If we look under the hood of the Maruti Suzuki Cervo, the entry level car will be powered by a 0.8 litre petrol engine that will be able to produce a peak output of about 50 bhp with a maximum torque somewhere near 70 Nm. If the current rumors are to be believed then the upcoming vehicle will be priced below the retail value of Tata Nano. Currently Tata is selling its Nano models in the price range of about Rs. 1.5 Lakhs to Rs. 2.15 lakhs.
