Facing the heat from new product introductions in the small saloon segment, the country’s largest automaker is all set to give the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire a facelift. Images of the redesigned model have surfaced on the internet and from what we can see, the cosmetic makeover is a mild one. It’s expected to hit roads in the second half of 2014, along with the redesigned Swift hatchback that’s also expected to get a similar design changes.
In the meantime, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire caught on camera is camouflaged, and this suggests two things: the facelift model is close to being introduced to India and the vehicle was spotted inside the factory.
The Dzire’s front end gets a smattering of chrome with a redesigned front grille, alternatively the headlights get a smoked finish too. The interior will feature a keyless ignition and entry and a push button start system, and these features are available on the mid-VXi trim, which also indicates that the range-topping ZXi/ZDi trim levels differentiating factors will be that of safety features, including Antilock Braking System and airbags. Expect a few more additions to the redesigned Dzire.
In terms of powertrains and transmissions options, the facelifted Dzire will retain the K Series 1.2 liter petrol powerplant, churning out 86bhp with 114 newton meters of torque and 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbodiesel that’s rated at 75bhp with 190 newton meters of torque. The petrol engine will continue to be available with 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions, whereas the diesel will be mated to 5-speed manual. The top-of-the-line ZXi and ZDi trims will feature Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and airbags.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is the largest selling sedan in the country; nonetheless the vehicle’s lead has come under pressure from the likes of recently introduced Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze. This pressure has been Dzire’s April sales dip for the first time. The coming months will see the introduction of Zest compact saloon, a vehicle which will bring the class-leading features to the table.
