MG ZS EV 2022 Launched | Quick Review | All You Need To know |

We tell you about the all-new facelifted ZS EV from MG India.

The MG ZS EV is architectured on Astor’s platform, but MG in India had launched the ZS EV, prior to the launch of the Astor. Now with the launch of Astor last year, the ZS EV felt a little dated in terms of design and tech-savvy features. So, the ZS EV was bound to get a cosmetic and mechanical facelift.

What all has changed in the new ZS EV?

Well, pretty much everything. The EV now 100 per cent looks like a twin of the Astor. Speaking of the looks, the ZS EV gets a completely redesigned look upfront. The charging socket is now placed beside the MG Logo, unlike the previous generation’s socket, hidden behind. The grille is now more EV looking than it was earlier. The new grille misses out on the air guide vents metaphorically implying, that this EV doesn’t need air to breathe. However, the celestial design of the grille is similar to the Astor.

The MG ZS EV does not get a fog lamp, so to fill the void, the new bumper gets aluminium finished skirtings near the fog lamp housing and the lower lip of the bumper. The ZS EV also gets the beautiful looking Hawk Eye Full-LED headlamps, which are not just visually appealing but also offer great visibility in dark.

The side profile of the EV remains unchanged in terms of the lines and curves, but it does borrow a few elements from the Astor to showcase the SUV elements like the roof rails and chrome finishing on the window line. The alloy wheels have also been replaced, the EV now gets 17-inch dual-tone wheels wrapped in a set of Michelin rubber.

Not only has the ZS EV changed visually, but it also comes with a major mechanical upgrade in its powertrain. The new ZS EV is powered by a larger 50.3 kWh battery pack, which promises better performance and driveability along with a better driving range. The new ZS EV promises a single-charge range of 461 Km. With this new battery pack, the motors now generate a maximum power of 176 PS and 280 Nm of Torque. For a crossover-SUV weighing upwards of 1500 Kg, the 0-100 km/h time is a phenomenal 8.5 seconds. The 50.3 kWh battery pack can be charged from 0-90 per cent in roughly 9 hours when charged by a 7.4 kW charger. However, with the 50 kW fast charger, the same results can be achieved in just 60 minutes.

The interior space has been completely redesigned with inspiration from Astor. The ZS EV gets a premium leather treatment around the cabin with sporty red stitchings. The leather treatment is not just limited to the seats and dashboard but even the door panels come with soft-touch leather to add on to the premium levels of the EV.

The ZS EV gets a digital instrument cluster, unlike the analogue dials in the previous generation. The infotainment system has also been updated and the EV now gets a 10.11-inch touch infotainment display, which houses all the controls for entertainment, smartphone connectivity & ADAS features.

The ZS EV gets 100+ voice commands to operate the various functions of the car, it also gets the digital key functionality, where the user can operate the basic functions or even drive the car with Bluetooth connectivity without the need of a physical key.

MG has given the ZS EV a lot of comfort and convenience features like Panoramic sunroof, cruise control, power-adjustable seats, wireless mobile charging, rear charging sockets & ac vents.

In terms of safety features, the ZS EV carry forwards the ADAS technology from the Astor. It gets Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, 6-airbags, 360-degree reverse camera. It also comes with Hill Climb, Hill-Descent Assist and an Isofix mount at the rear seats.

The ZS EV is launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs 21.99 lakhs for the Excite variant and Rs 25.88 lakhs for the top of the line Exclusive variant. However, the excite variant will not be available until July. The EV is available in just four shades of colour, Currant Red, Ashen Silver, Sable Black and Ferris White.
