Launch of the entry level crossover, the Renault Kwid , is nearing and the company has started accepting advance bookings for the car in some Indian cities. Depending on the city you are in, booking amount for this car is currently varying between Rs.20,000 and Rs.50,000. According to dealers, deliveries of the Kwid are expected to begin by the end of September, although nothing has been officially announced on this front by Renault as yet. Once the car is launched, price of it is expected to hover around the Rs.4 lakh mark.
The Kwid, although primarily a hatchback, has certain styling elements that make it look like an SUV. That is why it is more apt to call it an entry level crossover. For instance, its high 180mm ground clearance and a front bumper that somewhat resembles the Duster, does give the car an SUV like feel.
Right now the Kwid will be powered by an 800cc petrol engine, but plans are afloat to give the car a much bigger 1.0-liter diesel engine coupled with an AMT transmission sometime in the future – may be when a facelift of the car is launched.
On the inside, the Kwid has a pretty simple and has a clean layout with a good looking and uncluttered dash, power window controls and central air-conditioning. The top end variants are expected to have a 6.0 Infotainment system with USB ports.
