Volvo V40 Hatchback Launched For Rs 24.75 Lakh

If the V40 Cross Country of Volvo isn’t of your taste, here is another option to look for. The V40 hatchback which India was eyeing long back is finally launched for a starting price of Rs 24.75 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.

In terms of segmentation, V40 Cross Country is the crossover sibling of V40 hatchback with the raised height and added gimmicks, which the hatchback had shed to compete the likes of BMW 1-Series and Mercedes A-Class. New paint scheme, darkened front grille and air dam, no body cladding and lowered height are some traits that are owned by the new car which differentiates it against the Cross sibling. Panoramic glass roof and new alloy wheels add some more details to it. In fact, Swedish carmaker had made available two variants of standard V40 across the sales floor – Kinetic and R-Design, where each of them are powered by a D3 diesel engine of 147bhp mated to a six-speed auto transmission. ABS, airbags – front, side, curtain and pedestrian, and traction control are the standard features available alongside the mood lighting, powered front seats with memory, dual zone climate control, and parking sensors.

Thus, the only benefit of buying a Volvo in India is its unmatched quality standards, because the cars are imported directly into the country as a CBU (completely built unit). And this new hatchback V40 no exception will get imported from Belgium. In the time when every carmaker at the top of line from Germany are going the ‘Make in India’ way, Volvo sticking to CBU route is still interesting to look at.

Prices of Volvo V40 Hatchback:

Volvo V40 Kinetic – Rs 24.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

Volvo V40 R-Design – Rs 27.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

BMW launched its 1 series in the year 2004. It is a series of small sized family cars which succeeded the BMW Compact. It was launched in 4 body styles. The first generation models E82 and E88 are still into the market. The second and the current generation of 1 series was launched in the year 2011. It was code named F20. The car that has been sighted in India is the model F20. It has been available in the international markets since 2011 but will enter India only now, in 2013. Volvo V40 images leaked on Facebook

With just a few more days until the Geneva Motor show, carmakers are doing their best to keep their products wrapped up until the final unveil. However, the auto media industry has once again been successful in unmasking this Volvo hatch, waiting its unveiling at Geneva Motor Show.

A Polish auto magazine Motodziennik has previewed the Volvo V40. These images emerged from the Facebook page of the Polish auto magazine. The images reveal a great deal of detail as much as it has stirred up the excitement.

We can make out more from these leaked images of the car, than we could from the official images of most. The Volvo V40 is a premium 5-door compact car, that could replace the C30 hatchback, S40 sedan and V50 station wagon, but all these are pure speculations until the Geneva Motor show.

Volvo V40

The V40’s design has a subtle resemblance to the S60. We can make out the restyled hexagonal grille and swept back headlight on the front. The bonnet bends along the A-pillar and flows all the way to the fender. The bonnet is raised from lower end to make room for the twin exhaust pipes. The side line flows all the way to the C-pillar and compliments the uniquely designed tail lamps. There is also a shy spoiler and a hatch made entirely of glass.

The V40 measures 4,500 mm in length and will be based on the new Scalable Platform Architecture that will underpin most future Volvos. Powering the V40 will be Volvo’s next gen 2-litre, four-cylinder Volvo Environmental Architecture (VEA) engine.

Volvo V40

When launched, it will go up directly against the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. It does have an extra edge over being a Swedish car; translates to it being cheaper than the Germans.

We bought you the news of Volvo bringing hatch to India. And if this is what we’re welcoming, it will be bought in CBU form, keeping it in price range of the Mini Cooper and Mercedes B-Class.
