After launching its MK7 Golf last year in Paris, Volkswagen has now unveiled another top of the line version of its Golf GTD that was scheduled to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The new car is based on the seventh generation of the Golf and is the most powerful car ever in the long lineup. But like the original Golf it also combines the performance with the fuel economy to make it an exciting long range car.
The six speed gear box of the Volkswagen Golf GTD has been mated with the 2.0 litre Common Rail Turbodiesel that delivers 11 bhp of power with the peak torque of 380 Nm at 1,750 rpm. The vehicle is quite economic also as it consumes about 1 gallon of fuel for every 67.3 miles reducing the CO2 emissions to just about 109g/km. with the use of six speed DSG the fuel consumption stands around 25 kmpl. The vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds with the top speed of 230 kmph.
The new Golf GTD comes with a number of exciting new features like the smoked tail lights, LED illumination for the license plate, dual chrome tail pipes, 17 inches alloys that supports 225/45 tyres, a diffuser at the rear, side skirts, a large sporty roof spoiler and sports inspired suspension system.
The GTD badging makes it different from the other Golfs and this is evident from the interiors. The Volkswagen Golf GTD hires plush interiors along with the tartan sports seats, sporty steering wheel, roof lining in black, racing inspired stainless steel pedals, trim strips, it also hires a specific GTD gear lever and instrument cluster. The car is quite comfortable and that can be attributed to the Climatronic climate control, progressive steering, white ambience lightning, winter pack, rear and front parking sensors.
The new Volkswagen Golf GTD will be made available in Germany with the price tag of 29,350 euros for the entry level model and the order will begin from March. The sales in UK are expected to commence from April with the deliveries may take up to September. Pricing and other specifications are yet to be confirmed but we are hoping to catch on with the commencement of Geneva Motor Show.
