General Motors India has now started the production of the petrol version of its Chevrolet Enjoy MPV at its Halol manufacturing unit. The car has been scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2013.
The petrol engine housed in the Enjoy MPV will be a 1.4 litre unit that will be producing about 94.6 bhp and the diesel version will be hiring a 1.3 litre Fiat sourced Multijet engine. The diesel version likely to be used with a fixed geometry turbocharger (FGT) and will be a rear wheel drive.
The Enjoy will be more spacious that the Maruti Ertiga. It will also be offering a lot more storage space also. The second row and third row seats of this seven-seater can be folded flat or can even be removed to compensate for the additional space requirement. General Motors India is planning to price its MPV similar to that of Ertiga, so it will be a tough competitor for the Maruti Ertiga which is currently selling high on numbers. With the launch of Enjoy, the competition in the MPV market segment will heat up. Ertiga currently sells about 5,000 units per month and is a major success story in the segment.
The Enjoy MPV that holds an important place in the General Motor India’s lineup is basically a rebadged Wuling CN-100 which is a part of the GM-SAIC’s product portfolio in the Chinese market. Chevrolet has also launched several other products from the GM-SAIC’s table, including recently launched Sail saloon and Sail Hatchback.
Chevrolet is further planning to expand its dealer network in India to support the car sales. It currently holds 285 sales points and 278 service centers in 55 cities.
