It has just been over four months since Maruti Suzuki has launched its new hatchback model, the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 in the Indian market and it has already achieved several milestones. Just in a week’s launch time, it has set a new record by touching about 21,000 bookings, and since then it has been selling like hot cakes. Maruti has been selling about 25,000 units of Alto every month. Now, it has hit another milestone by selling over one lakh units in just four months of its launch. The one lakh figure is hard to achieve by many Indian automakers even on their annual sales listings for any particular model. This clearly shows market dominance and belief people have in Maruti vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 replaced the much appreciated Alto, which was also India’s top selling brand. But respectful to its inheritance, Alto 800 has only taken Alto legacy a step further. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 mainly stands against the likes of Chevrolet Spark and Hyundai Eon and has taken them with a bang. Both the vehicles not even selling half as much as Alto 800 on the monthly sales figures.
The new Alto 800 has received some major upgrades in terms of styling, comfort and performance. The car now feels much roomier and comfortable. In fact, it hires more space than the previous version. The vehicle still hires the same 796cc engine that is capable of producing power of about 48 PS and a peak torque of about 69 Nm mated with a 5 speed manual transmission. The engine has been tweaked for better performance and mileage. The new vehicle boasts of improvement of about 15 percent in fuel economy over the previous model. Maruti also sells CNG version in the Indian market which returns about 30 kmpl of mileage.
Maruti has now been selling Alto brand for more than 10 years has now revamped both exterior and interior design of this new vehicle giving it a more modern and attractive look but the vehicle still drives on the same old platform with the same engine. Dimensionally car is now bigger than its predecessor offering more leg, head and shoulder room for occupants.
