New base variant of Mahindra XUV500 (W4) will launch by end of October; Feature List leaked

Not to be an exception, Mahindra XUV500 was ‘rumored’ of having a new entry level variant in the pipeline, meant exclusively for a ‘reduced price tag’. Hence, now a report in industry is confirming that feature list of the same is also been leaked to them.

Henceforth, the launch of new low-end XUV is said to be concluded by the end of this month.

Continuing further, the industry is going through some rough patches of the time, where vehicles like Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and else have penetrated the SUV segment and notched the excitement level by playing the customer-friendly price tags. In order to counter those turning aspects, Mahindra developed the trimmed-down variant of XUV500 dubbed as “W4”.

However, the leaked feature list of the vehicle is going to cream up some raunchy games in the nearby times. Hopefully, the leaked material says, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold, Hill Descent control, will be missed out on the safety front from the new vehicle. While cosmetically, the car is tend not to have front foglamps, twin exhaust tips, roof rails or cladding strips.

Comfort level of the car will also be crippled down tremendously by bidding off the telescopic steering, fully-automatic temperature control, power-folding side mirrors and premium fabric upholstery.

To an addition, Mahindra XUV500 W4 will drive the same powertrain that it does with ongoing ones. The 2.2L diesel engine of 140bhp and 330Nm of torque, along with the start-stop and six-speed transmission to be there. But is said to lack the 6-inch touchscreen infotainment display, DVD player, tyre pressure sensor, parking assistant, rain sensing wipers and light sensing headlamps on the trimmed version for being the cost effective part of repertoire.

Effectively, Mahindra retails the present generation XUV500 for as low as Rs. 12.01 lakh, and as high as Rs. 14.64 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

Mahindra Lowers Ground Clearance of XUV500: Prices also dipped by Rs. 33,000

Finally, after the big drama over Union Budget amendment, now the leading SUV maker of India had bowed to government’s official for the hike in taxation over ground clearance consideration.

It was slated in the way, UVs which are having more than 1500cc engine and are extending the 4 metres mark, “with ground clearance of more than 170mm” their excise duties will be hiked from 27% to 30%. So in order, our earlier posts had also mentioned about Mahindra working on the same to reduce the complexities of this government created hassle. Even Mr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive and Farm Equipment sector too had showed disappointment over this issue.

As of now, to counter the effect Mahindra had finally engulfed its XUV500 with lower ground clearance i.e. at 160mm and had also reduced its price by Rs. 27,000 on the lower end spec W6 trim, and Rs. 33,000 on the higher end trim W8. These are an outcome of not attracting those 3% additional excise duties, and hence carmaker had passed on same benefits to the customer. To protect the engine in uneven roads automaker had also deployed stone guard underneath.

Mahindra XUV500
Commenting on this, Mr. Pawan Goenka stated, “The reduced ground clearance of the XUV does in no way affect the ride and handling of the vehicle. On the contrary, it has become more robust. We are evaluating whether the changed parameters can be applied to other vehicles. We are looking at the feasibility of a smaller power train for the Bolero, but that would take a minimum of 18 months to develop. The Scorpio is a power and performance-driven vehicle, and there is no way that we will look at a lower power train for it. We may consider a lower ground clearance for the Scorpio as well.”

Meanwhile, the vehicles with lowered ground clearance have been already dispatched to dealers, and sales are expected to commence by this week itself. Indian carmaker is also expecting 10%-15% improved sales figure for this month.
